Candy medicine

SGG took me to Dr Bean’s for a routine check-up for my kindergarten application. Dr Bean was worried about my runny nose and gave me lots of medicine including a new “candy” medicine, for my allergies, which I have to take at the same time every day.

Papa, SGG and I went to a school meeting today. After the meeting, Auntie Esther and Uncle Calvin invited us to the American Club in Tai Tam. We played in the playroom and swam but I wouldn’t wear my goggles and didn’t like water in the eyes. It started to rain quite hard so we got out and changed. We were late getting to the restaurant so had to wait 45 minutes for a table. I ate fruit and coloured jelly.

Storm

I started off this month with offers of 2 play dates: one with Austin & Mason and another with Yuan Yuan. I chose to see Yuan Yuan. Papa thinks I’m getting to clingy in the mornings and started taking a firmer approach with me (something about a Super Nanny, whatever that is).

Storm warning, so no school today. I spat out my food at lunch, and was sent to bed without eating. Later, I went to see Maya in her room. I like her toys especially her mobile which plays different tunes. I turned it on and told SGG, “I need to go to a concert, I do Bach” which amused her.

Maya

I have a new playmate. Last week, Grandma and Papa told me that Big’s baba was coming and I knew that “Auntie Lucy was cutting baby out of Gugu Big’s tummy”. Baba was born at 5.46pm weighing 6lbs 14.7ozs. SGG took me to meet her after school on Wednesday, I held little Maya and she gave me two lovely books – Peter Rabbit and Baby Honu – and five little cars with a road board.

Big and Baba came home today. I gave her a typical Theodore/'pretty girl with long-hair Megan' welcome by showering her with my toy cars and engines. Maya gave me Bertie. I think its going to be fun having a little cousin especially if she keeps quiet and gives me presents all the time :-)

Meeting Auntie Cheryl again

Auntie Cheryl took us to Clearwater Bay Country Club. While Dexter slept I rode in a boat in the playground and chatted with Auntie Cheryl and Auntie Mui, and to SGG’s pleasure did lots of my party tricks including showing Auntie Mui my yoga positions and talking lots and coherently. After lunch, we went to the marina to see the big boats and fishes. I had fun.

While we were at Clearwater Bay with Auntie Cheryl, Papa went to see my class teacher Miss Stella to discuss my achievements this term. Both Miss Stella and Papa agreed I have grown-up a lot recently, and gave me only stars and ticks on my report card this time around, no triangles :-). SGG and Grandma both think I have really come together over this past month. I’m not sure what this means but I think it has to do with me being better behaved (although I still do senseless things sometimes) and making more sense and holding proper conversations instead of only giving one-word replies such as “Yes”, “No” or saying only “I don’t yike it” when I talk.

Eilidh, Catriona and Dexter

I then had three play dates this month, the first on the 17th with Big’s friends, Eilidh, Catriona, Auntie Nathalie and “That Man”, Uncle Fergus. Eilidh and Catriona gave me a red taxi which I “yike” very much.

Today, I met Dexter, Auntie Mui and Auntie Cheryl. I was hungry and couldn’t concentrate on playing until after I had eaten. I then introduced Dexter to Coney and when we left, Dexter and I hugged.

Ocean Park

Easter Holidays started after school on the 7th and I promptly fell ill. For the first few days, Gugu Big gave me my usual medicine, but I got hot in the head on the 12th and asked SGG to take me to see Dr Bean. The nurse at Dr Bean’s gave me some medicine to inhale to open up my lungs and lots of medicine to take home, including some anti-biotics (which Papa taught me to call uncle-biotics!). It was a week before I got fully better :-(.

Today, SGG took me to Ocean Park to spend the day with her friend Carol, and her daughters Adele and Aimee. I had fun and even tried the ‘Frog Hopper’ ride which I didn’t like and had to get off after a couple of hops. We saw dolphins and a very large sea lion on the back of a truck. It was a hot day and the walking tired me out so I asked SGG to take me home at lunchtime.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Papa and SGG took me to Disneyland today (Ching Ming Festival). It was a long way, and it took over one hour to get there. we took a taxi and two trains – one train had Mickey’s ears-shaped windows.

I had a lovely time. I rode Dumbo twice, Hundred Acre Wood with Pooh and his friends three times and the carousel (four times). We went on an adventure boat ride, saw the 3-D show called ‘Mickey’s Philharmagic’ and ‘The Lion King’ show which was a little scary when Scar appeared.

We then saw the Parade with all the different characters on floats including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Pooh and Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jess. We got home at 5.15pm and I was tired but excited. Papa and SGG said I was a very good boy today:-).

Potty trained

I still keep asking SGG and the grown-ups, “where’s Grandpa?”. Grandma says it is because I miss Grandpa. I still think Grandpa is in hospital but SGG tells me that Grandpa has gone away. She also told me that Grandpa is in my heart and if I love him, Grandpa will be with me always. I automatically piped up, “I yove him, I yove Grandpa” which for some strange reason made SGG cry.

Today, I told SGG I wanted to do a big doodah in the potty. I tried for what seemed ages and SGG said I could go play and try again later, but I told her, “No, I will do it” and I did. SGG was very proud of me :-).

Where's Grandpa?

I have been asking everyone “where’s Grandpa?”

Grandma, Big, SGG and Papa tell me that Grandpa has gone far away. Papa told me that Grandpa was very sick and “all the King’s horses and all the King’s men, couldn’t put Grandpa together again” :-(.

Today, we went to Sai Kung with Uncle Joe and Auntie Christine and took a boat out to give Grandpa a send-off. It had been raining all weekend, and it rained while the boat motored to the special spot Grandma had chosen. The rain then stopped and we threw roses and rose petals in the water for Grandpa. Afterwards we had lunch at a restaurant next to the pier and saw Marvin and his family. What a coincidence!

Excuse me!

I am talking more than ever and, according to the grown-ups, coming up with lots of cute phrases. I used to shout “No listen” when I wanted everyone to be quiet, now I say “Excuse me, no listen, I want to talk”. Grandma and SGG are teaching me to say my address in both English and Cantonese - they are afraid I might get lost one day!

SGG tried to take me to Penfold Park today, but found that it was closed due to avian flu (whatever that might be). So we went to Beas River Country Club instead where I had fun riding on my tricycle and playing with Pun. We then stopped off at Auntie May’s to pick up “something nice”, which turned out to be a very tasty apple strudel :-p . Auntie May was really chuffed that I called her name without being prompted. SGG said I was a very good boy.

Goodbye to Grandpa

Grandpa fell ill again and went back into hospital on the day of my birthday. Grandma, Papa, Big and SGG all spent a lot of time with Grandpa but made time for me also. They would take it in turns to take me to school or bring me home, have breakfast, lunch and dinner with me and at weekends would take me to Happy Valley Jockey Club to have lunch and play. The Jockey Club is close to Grandpa’s hospital.

Grandpa went away on the 24th. Everyone is very sad but I know Grandpa is now “high up in the sky” and would “love me forever” :-)

My third birthday

SGG bought me a new book called “Large and Small”. I like it very much as I like to pretend to be “grumpy and dark” just like Small, and SGG will still love me no matter what!

Started back at school on the 8th, Papa signed me up for Soccatots on Thursdays after school. I didn’t like it at all as the boys were older than me so I stopped going after only three weeks.

I had a party on the actual day of my birthday. Marvin, Emily Lincoln, the twins Austin and Mason and their families came. Papa was games master, Big baked lots of cookies and cakes including a chocolate Happy-Birthday-To-You Cake with candies on the top. It was very tasty :-). Everyone had fun and left with a bulging Party Bag including a little outfit each from Hainan that Grandpa bought us.

I decided I liked the name Megan and announced to SGG today that “Didore pretend a girl called Megan”. I like the name so much I answer to it all the time.

Barney at New Year

Chinese New Year was on the 29th this year. I put on the silk jacket Sai Gugu bought me and did lots of party tricks with Great Uncle Frank and Grandpa.

Then Papa and SGG took me to see “Barney’s Magic Castle” today (Big bought the tickets). I really enjoyed myself and sat very still. I sang along to the songs I knew and hummed along with the tunes I didn’t know; I had such a good time. I cried at the end of the show as I didn’t want it to finish :-(. SGG said I was just like Papa.

Report card

Papa and Big came to my school assessment. They all agreed that I needed to get better at telling my family about my day at school, my likes and dislikes. My class teacher Miss Stella also agreed that I am very stubborn. I was given detention on the 23rd - I got over-excited during Miss Carol’s lesson, climbed and then rolled off the table, knocking over a few of my classmates.

Double birthday

We celebrated Papa's birthday on the 18th and Grandpa’s on the 22nd. We had my favourite Happy-Birthday-To-You Cake - fresh fruit and fresh cream, and I helped blow out the candles :-).

Close shave

Grandpa and Grandma went to Bangkok for a few days' holiday. "Big" and Sai Gugu looked after me and took me to Penfold Park a couple of times, and we lunched at Shatin Jockey Club afterwards. It was fun to ride my big tricycle at the park.

As I was behaving very well, SGG thought it would be a good idea to cut my hair herself while the rest of the family was out. Unfortunately it was too much of a close shave and SGG was most upset. I told her “never mind” but she took me to see Uncle Frederic so he could tidy me up. “Uncle Frederic is a nice man” ;-)
